Our Story

I am a live edge woodworking hobbyist looking for a good home for my projects.
Hello my name is Craig Rawlyk. It has been a long time dream to be able to make creations for people to love and enjoy. When I was young I spent many days with my neighbour who had a passion for woodworking and always had a dream of one day building up my workshop and doing some woodworking of my own. Covid has had many negative affects on us all. I decided I was going stay positive, put my newly found free time to good use, start getting my woodshop together and get creating! In addition to my past introduction to woodworking, my best friend also got into woodworking and taking on lichtenberg / epoxy wood projects. We have collaborated on a few projects together and it has been great bonding and learning with him in this new found venture. Each time I do a project I push to perfect my craft but know that woodworking is something that I will continue to grow, learn and develop at as there are so many directions to go! All sales of my creations go toward new tools and building up my shop and my live edge wood collection to help me create more and more new creations! It is a pleasure to see my creations get used and love knowing that they will last for generations to enjoy!

Care Infomation

These cleaning and care instructions apply to any of our boards - or most likely any that you already have at home.
* Charcuterie & Cutting Board Care Instructions Congratulations!!! You just purchased a new Cragonfly Creations Board - it is a fantastic purchase and will become a generational piece within your family. All boards are made from hand selected hardwoods like cherry, maple and black walnut. If treated properly, there is no reason this board won’t last for generations. • First things first - no dishwasher - ever. As strong as these boards are, natural wood does not like extreme heat. The board may warp and get stripped of its finish. Dishwashers can be great as they can save water over hand washing a lot of dishes- but let your board sit this one out. Step 1 All you need is a little warm water, dish soap and a sponge sponge (nothing abrasive like steel wool or scouring pads) to clean your board up. You may have some dried-on bits of food, just put some work in and get scrubbing - you will not hurt the board. Step 2 Let it dry. With a cloth wipe excess water off and allow to air dry. Wood will dry better and avoid warping if stood up on long side edge with top and bottom surface areas exposed to dry evenly. Step 3 (cutting boards) Sand it (Optional) After washing it, wiping it down, air drying and before oiling. • With cutting boards overtime you may want to remove any deep scratches. Sand the board evenly with 120 grit until scratches are gone and then finish with a light sanding with 220 grit. You can use sandpaper with a sanding block or if you have an orbital sander, great! After finished make sure to wipe away all sanding dust Step 4 Oil it. Some simple maintenance will keep your board as beautiful as you are. Every other time you wash your board give it a little rub of food grade mineral oil or beeswax which both can be found at your local hardware store or you can order online There are some other great products you can order such as Odies Oil & Walrus Oil, these are my two go to oils for seasoning boards. Mineral oil is important as it repels water, so it can prevent absorption. Beeswax moisturizes your board and this natural substance is food safe and water resistant. Using beeswax regularly can keep your cutting board looking new. Because beeswax is a solid, it is harder for wood to absorb it. Whatever product you go with just follow the instructions, usually they will be applied, need some time to set up and then get buffed off (wax on, wax off… Make Mr. Miyagi proud!) Step 5 Use it and enjoy it. As pretty as your board may be - it is meant to be used and used and used. Everything Cragonfly Creations sells is meant to be used. Use it, enjoy it, let it become part of your everyday routine and life. ________________________________________________________________ DO • Use dish soap, water & non-abrasive sponge- These are totally fine to use for those times when you have tougher foods to get off, or you want to wash your board especially well after setting out meats, etc. • Oil regularly, especially if your board is getting frequent use. This will keep it looking beautiful and protect the wood from moisture that will cause warping. • Dry off thoroughly after rinsing. Don’t just set it out on a dish rack- use a towel to dry off any excess water. • Use food-grade mineral oil, to protect your board and keep it looking beautiful! • Use food-grade wax if you’re wanting a little extra protection in addition to oil. • Use kosher salt and halved lemons or vinegar and baking soda to get rid of smells and bacteria. Keep it sanitized and smelling clean! • Use sandpaper if your board is starting to feel a little rough. A very fine grade is all you need to touch it up- then give it a good oiling to keep it smooth! ________________________________________________________________ DON’T • Use the dishwasher- the heat will warp the wood! • Use abrasive scrubbers like steel wool- you’ll ruin the beautiful finish! • Soak your board in water- while rinsing and washing your board is fine, letting it soak for a longer period of time will definitely cause warping! • Use olive or vegetable oils- these can get rancid over time and cause your board to smell that way! And you don’t want that smell to affect the foods you’re serving! • Store it in a closed space. Air flow will help your board stay dry and keep it from building up unwanted moisture that can cause warping and breaking. ________________________________________________________________ Boards are beautiful- so don’t be afraid to display them! Get creative and use them as kitchen decor either on the counter or hanging on the wall. You can also keep it somewhere like a large pantry that still allows air flow but keeps it out of sight if that’s your preference ;). Charcuterie boards may take a little more conscious care, but when shown the proper love, they can stay beautiful and serve your family for many, many years!
